Wall Hideaway Beds

When you need space, wall/hideaway beds are the perfect way to expand your living area while not taking away your own sleeping area. However, since they are not as common as they once were, these Murphy wall beds should be considered carefully. Here are a few pros and cons about wall and hideaway beds that you should keep in mind as well as a few alternatives that will help you to decide what is best for you and for your living space.

Understand What Your Dealing With

So what exactly is a wall or hideaway bed? Since they are not as common as they once were, it is important to understand what is being talked about here. A folding bed that is hideaway or wall is one that will actually fold up into and become part of the wall when not in use. They are most useful and most common in studio apartments and small rooms.

Specifically, a hideaway bed can be any bed that can be hidden when not in use. This could be an air bed, an air mattress portable cot bed, or even a raised portable air bed. Anything you can hide or move is really a hideaway bed.

The Pros

The pros of either type of bed (wall / hideaway beds) are very obvious and very simple. For one, they allow you to have a lot more living space during the day. With the bed out of site, you can use the space for other parts of living from entertaining to eating to simply having space to walk from one area to another. Additionally, such beds are often cheaper and can save you the high cost of buying another type of bed.

The Cons

The cons of wall / hideaway beds are that they are generally not very comfortable and may not last. Additionally, they can be hard on y our back, which is unhealthy. If your kids use children’s hideaway beds, then they could be doing damage to their backs during key growth years. Beyond that, many hideaway beds and many wall beds do not have a long life. They are hard on you and hard on the mattresses you put on them which leave you buying a new bed or at least a new mattress with fair regularity.

So there is a lot to think about with wall / hideaway beds. Make sure you know the pros and cons, weigh them against your situation, and make the decision that is best for you. Either way, the folding beds and hiding beds are not going anywhere anytime soon.
