Bed Components
Beds may seem simple, but the best of them are made up of basic bed components. By having a better understanding of bed components, you will become a better bed shopper when you go to make a purchase. You will also be able to decide which bed components you think are the most important to you and to your situation. So with that in mind, here is a basic run down on bed components.
The Base And Rails
The most basic of beds is the set of rails with a base. Many mattress stores give these away as beds and many furniture stores sell them for under one hundred dollars. However, before you look at any other components of a bed, you should consider the simplest level of bed. Two rails connected on the ends and sitting on wheels make up all you really need.
The one exception is for a bed that is larger than a full size. That is, if you are getting a queen, California King, or King sized bed, you need one other bed component. In such situations, you need a center rail with a support foot. This center cross rail will prevent your mattress from wearing out too fast and will also help it to stay above the rails.
Extra Pieces To Consider
If you want a little more than your mattress sitting up off the floor, you have to consider additional bed components. The most obvious of these for many people is the headboard. When choosing a headboard, make sure that you always measure the room size and your doorways. Furniture stores get as many headboards back as any other piece of furniture for inability to fit it through a doorway.
You may also want to look at a footboard to match your headboard. If you decide to go with such a set, make sure of a couple of things. For one, make sure that anything over a full sized bed comes with a center bar or slats for your mattress to sit on. Even the nicest of headboards and footboards are not enough to help if you don’t have the proper support for your mattress.
When it comes to bed components, there is not too much to think about really. The basics leave you with just some rails, some wheels, and possibly a center bar. However, if you decide to go with a headboard and footboard, that basic knowledge will help you to keep an eye out to make sure you have all the right piece for a great bedding experience.
